How Dubya could expand the Kingdom of God. If he wanted to.

2003, on the Eve of Iraq War II.

As an American, and more importantly, as a Disciple of Christ, where do we focus our attention, now that this phase of this war is winding down?  The Christian evangelical population has a lot of political capital at the moment.  How will they spend it?

Amidst all the hoopla about supporting our troops; the rhetoric about a “just war”; the jingoism of “our country, right or wrong”; the fun of bashing the French and the Dixie Chicks; the hysteria of war fever that has gripped our nation for many months; and the adulation of a president who is, if nothing else, very determined to implement his agenda — how do we move toward a Biblical application of justice and how do we encourage a civil government to expand the Kingdom of God?  (It is clear that George W. Bush has already served as an instrument of God, by becoming a scourge on the backs of an anti-Christian and corrupt nation of Iraq.  But he could do more…much more.  And if he is a genuine Christian, as the propagandists would have us believe, he will.)

Above all others, there is one policy which, if implemented, would change Iraq and bring Liberty to that tragic Land.  I do not speak of political liberty — that is a fruit, not a seed.  That is the result of something far more fundamental, and something Muslims  know little or nothing about.  There is one policy which could transform Iraq into a land of liberty, in a mere twenty to fifty years.  And any person who tells you that Iraq can be transformed into a self-ruling peaceful nation in a period of a year or two is either a fool, or is an agent of disinformation.

Liberty is born of a mindset and a heart attitude of total respect for private property and for protecting the rights of others.  This includes, above all else, religious tolerance for those who disagree with us.  That mindset does not currently exist in Iraq, nor in any other Islamic country on earth.  It cannot, for Islam is a religion of war.  Contrary to what the sophists of the talk shows and Hollywood have told us, the word “Islam” does not mean “submission to Allah”.  It means, according to their own scholars, “militant dedication unto death” for Allah.  Islam = war.  It is a totally intolerant religion, and any tolerance it ever shows is a face designed to gain position until it is no longer vulnerable.  If you don’t understand that, you need to study.

Against this militant Islamic faith must come, NOT simply the power of a godless State foolishly preaching “democracy”, but the militant faith of Disciples of Christ (Yehushua).  The proper definition of a Christian is “militant disciple unto death” for Yahweh.  But our militancy, unlike that of Islam, requires that we not impose our faith with a sword.  Indeed, we protect the right of a heathen to remain so, unmolested.

Nonetheless, having the ear of the Sword-Wielder (the US Government), we have an opportunity to request that provision be made for us to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in peace.  There is a huge difference in creating an opportunity whereby people may respond to our faith in peace, and in killing or enslaving those who disagree with us.

There is only one Biblical prayer for rulers in authority.  What is it?  (If you don’t know, then you’ll be easily led by those who specialize in turning religious zeal into a political agenda.)  There is no other Biblical prayer for civil government, contrary to all the nonsense from 501.c3 religious prostitutes mobilizing their armies to “pray for our president (and send your most generous love-offering in the postage-paid envelope enclosed”), which permeates the internet these days.  Instead, I exhort you to pray in this manner:  “That the government will leave us alone in peace, in order that we can work to expand the Kingdom of YHWH.”

I Timothy 2:2:  “…Pray for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if the 21st Century Church could find its way out of the political fog and become a Force that simply determines that the Good News about Redemption WILL be taught to every nation and every person on earth, civil governments be damned?  Let the kings (and presidents) who want to be blessed by YHWH and His People make provision for us.  Let those who ignore our God be humbled and destroyed, regardless of their political or geographical circumstances.  They should come to us for a blessing, rather than us bending our knee and begging a civil government for permission to preach or practice our faith.

There are those who might suggest that I am dreaming, that the modern church can never go back to a Biblical model.  To whom I say, the Kingdom of Yahweh has never been anywhere else, and if you don’t see it, perhaps you’re looking in the wrong places.  If you attend a church or a denomination which is not willing to exert its influence to impose a militant, Biblical Christian agenda upon the political servants of this land, then you need to seriously research the definition of “religious prostitution” and start looking for fellowship elsewhere.

The “Cradle of Liberty” in the USA is not simply the geographical region of New England or the original Thirteen Colonies.  It was 150 years of fathers living in a harsh wilderness, reading the Bible to their sons and daughters every morning and every night, instilling the Faith of Abraham and of the Apostles into children who tamed that wilderness with a commitment to righteousness in their daily lives, and a respect for the principles of Liberty derived from the Word of God.

Iraq is an impoverished harsh land, but it has had its reigns of prosperity.  It need not be a land of poverty.  It can become a land of Plenty and a land of Prosperity and a land of Liberty.  IF.

If the USA will lay down a condition, right now, that the new Iraqi government will accept Christian missionaries without barriers, to enter and operate freely, at their own expense.  It’s that simple.  If they are persecuted, the new regime (and make no mistake about it, the next system of government will be every bit as corrupt as the one it replaces, just like Afghanistan) must protect them, as they should protect the Life, the Liberty and the Property of any citizen, of any resident, of any visitor.  If they don’t want to offer religious freedom to all who will come, then they may expect no foreign aid from the USA.  It should be a pre-condition to rebuilding.  They will take it.  IF we have the guts to demand it.

Government is, like fire, a useful servant, but a fearsome master.  That civil government which is limited by a system of checks and balances can work, whether it is the American system, or some other system.  But power, once concentrated, is subject to the morality of those who hold the power.  And in Iraq there is no large pool of potential governors and administrators who grasp that concept.  They have grown up for millennia believing that the main reason one works for the government is so they can line their pockets and oppress their enemies while they have the chance.  That is not going to change in less than one generation.  But a generation of Christian teachers, with schools teaching Liberty, could change it.  In time.  Given the freedom to operate for a few decades.  That education needs to be Christian.  If you don’t think so, then I exhort you to become a Disciple of Christ.
