New's Analysis and Commentary | Are you living a life worthy of the sacrifice they made?
In signing the Declaration of Independence, each man risked his family and his fortune, and their future in Texas, at the very least.
Four days later, the volunteers holding The Alamo in San Antonio were overrun and massacred by the Mexican army under General, Dictator and President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. These men risked more than their future in Texas – they risked their lives, and paid with the price they risked.
No one went there hoping to die. No one stepped across Col. Travis’ line in the sand with a desire to die. But all of them were willing to pay the price that would make it possible for Liberty to exist in Texas – that is a price we must not only appreciate, but pass on to out children.
How do you teach your children about that price of Liberty? Do you do it with a trip to the Alamo every few years? That’s a good start. Do you demonstrate to them how you stand up and oppose tyranny when you find it in your state, your county, your school district, etc.?
In other words, do you live a life worthy of the sacrifice of those who died in the Alamo? If not, you should be ashamed, and should quit calling yourself a Texan. If you want to start standing up to tyranny, then get involved in the process that is designed to prevent it. Teach your children by example, not by words alone.
We think joining the Constitution Party is a good way to begin that. You might like to start your own. Whatever you do, pass on Liberty to your grandchildren.
No one is asking you die for Liberty.
Yet.
